Desk Based Assessments
They are the starting point within a program of archaeological investigation and can take place prior to development or any form of site investigation.
This process involves a detailed examination of historical, cartographic, aerial photographic and pictorial records, previous archaeological projects and published and unpublished literature.
Desk based assessments inform the planning process by providing all relevant parties with the appropriate information on the archaeological potential of a site and, importantly, the prospective impacts of the development upon this resource.
