Community Archaeology at Brodsworth Fieldschool 2011
July and August 2011 saw
visits to site from students at Doncaster Hall Cross school along with
a wide variety of community participants. People learned about
archaeology in the field by participating in such activities as
geophysics, fieldwalking, excavation, planning and levelling.

Community Archaeology at Monk Bretton Priory
July 2010
Location: Monk Bretton Priory, Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Funded activities: A 2 week community
dig attracting 315 members of local communities, working alongside the
University of Sheffield to locate the Tudor mansion of the
Talbot family which was built on the site following the Reformation of
Henry VIII. Further work in the Monk Bretton area includes Family and Local History sessions, talks to local community groups on local history and archaeology.

Dearne Valley Archaeology Group founded October 2010
The group was founded by Elmet Archaeological Services Ltd to satisfy the interests of the local and wider Dearne Valley community. Meetings take place monthly and speakers and visits are a large part of our activities. The group is now self-funded and has a membership of over 30 individuals.Adam Reaney, a Future Jobs Fund volunteer with Elmet was instrumental in setting this up.

Community Archaeology Wath-Upon-Dearne September 2011
September 2011 saw a group of hardy community members
carry out a fieldwalking survey and a geophysical survey on local
farmland. This activity is the first step in a longer project and was
funded by the Council for British Archaeology and Coalfields
Regeneration Trust.
Teaching and Archaeology Community Dig June and July 2010 
Location: Wath-Upon-Dearne and Brodsworth Hall

Funded activities: 10 week teaching courses in Archaeology,Local History and IT and a one week archaeology dig.
Funded by: Humber Learning Consortium, ESF and Skills Funding Agency. 40 learners have attended courses and fieldwork activities in order to help them develop new and transferable skills. Supported by: Brodsworth Community Archaeology Group


Dearne Valley Archaeology Day 2011
The first DVAD took place in February. The result of much hard work by
Tom Barnard on his work placement with Elmet from the University of
Sheffield, the day was a great success. With talks ranging from the
Agean to Wombwell Woods and craft workshops it was throughly enjoybale.
As a result we will be hosting DVAD once again in February 2012. For
